The kitchen is typically the most used room in the home — and the most complex to renovate well. A kitchen renovation involves structural considerations, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, cabinetry, countertops, tile, appliances, and lighting, all coordinated within a space that needs to function beautifully every day. Mighton Construction manages the entire process with the detail and professionalism this kind of project demands.

What a Kitchen Renovation Involves

Our kitchen projects go well beyond cosmetic updates. We handle:

  • Layout redesign — relocating plumbing, moving walls, improving workflow between cooking, prep, and cleanup zones
  • Structural modifications — removing load-bearing walls, installing engineered beams, and opening sightlines to adjacent living spaces
  • Custom cabinetry — working with quality Canadian cabinet manufacturers to deliver storage solutions tailored to your needs
  • Countertops and backsplashes — quartz, granite, porcelain, and other premium surfaces, professionally templated and installed
  • Plumbing and electrical upgrades — new fixtures, pot lights, under-cabinet lighting, dedicated appliance circuits, and upgraded plumbing for islands and relocated sinks
  • Flooring and finishing — coordinating flooring transitions, trim, and paint to create a cohesive finished space

Considerations for South Georgian Bay Homes

Many homes in the Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, and Blue Mountain area were built with smaller, enclosed kitchens that reflect an older style of living. Opening these up to modern layouts often requires structural work. Older homes may also have outdated electrical panels that need upgrading to support modern appliance loads, or plumbing that needs to be brought up to current code.

For cottage and waterfront properties, kitchen renovations often coincide with broader upgrades — improving insulation, replacing windows, or converting seasonal spaces to year-round use. We can coordinate a kitchen renovation as a standalone project or as part of a larger whole-home renovation.

Investment That Adds Value

A well-executed kitchen renovation is one of the most effective ways to improve both the livability and the resale value of your home. Our clients invest in kitchens that are designed for how they actually cook, entertain, and gather — not just for aesthetics.

Our process

01

Design Consultation

We assess your existing kitchen, discuss how you use the space, review your goals and budget, and explore layout options that improve function and flow.

02

Design Development & Selections

Working with our design partners, we finalize the layout, select cabinetry, countertops, fixtures, tile, and appliances, and prepare a detailed scope and budget.

03

Pre-Construction

We order long-lead materials (cabinetry and countertops can take 6–12 weeks), secure any required permits, and schedule trades.

04

Demolition & Rough-In

We remove the existing kitchen, make structural modifications if needed, and rough in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC changes.

05

Installation & Finishing

Cabinetry, countertops, tile, fixtures, appliances, and all finishing details are installed with precision and care.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a kitchen renovation cost in South Georgian Bay?
Most of our kitchen projects fall between $50k and $150k+. Cost depends on the size of the kitchen, whether walls are being moved, the quality of cabinetry and countertops, and the complexity of plumbing and electrical changes. We provide a detailed budget before any work begins.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
From demolition to completion, most kitchen renovations take 8–14 weeks. However, design development and material ordering (especially custom cabinetry) can add 8–12 weeks before construction begins. Plan for a total timeline of 4–6 months.
Can you open up my kitchen to the living area?
Yes. Removing walls to create an open-concept layout is one of the most common requests we handle. If the wall is load-bearing, we install an engineered beam to carry the load. This requires a building permit and structural engineering, both of which we coordinate.
Do I need to leave my home during a kitchen renovation?
You do not have to, but be prepared for disruption. You will be without a functional kitchen for several weeks. Many clients set up a temporary kitchen in another room with a microwave, kettle, and small fridge. We do our best to minimise dust and noise.
Do you supply the cabinetry and countertops?
We work with trusted cabinetry suppliers and stone fabricators. We can guide you through selections and manage the entire procurement process, or we can work with a supplier you have already chosen.
