Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about our services, process, and how we work.
General questions
What areas does Mighton Construction serve?
We serve Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, The Blue Mountains, Clearview Township, Tiny Township, Springwater, Barrie for selected larger projects, and the broader Simcoe County and South Georgian Bay region. For church construction, we serve communities within roughly 1.5 hours of Wasaga Beach, including Midland, Penetanguishene, Orillia, and broader Ontario for exceptional church projects.
What types of projects is Mighton Construction best suited for?
We are best suited for larger residential, cottage, and church projects where planning, project management, quality trades, and clear communication matter. This includes custom homes, home additions, whole-home renovations, premium kitchen/bathroom/basement renovations, PVC and composite decks, custom cottages and waterfront homes, and church construction. We are not a handyman or small repair service and do not typically take on insurance claim work.
Is the initial consultation free?
Yes. We start with a free initial conversation to understand your goals, timing, location, and rough budget. If the project is a good fit, we can provide early guidance and a ballpark estimate. Detailed pre-construction planning, design coordination, and in-depth estimating are handled as a paid service.
How long does it take to get a response?
We aim to respond to serious project enquiries within 1-2 business days.
Does Mighton Construction handle permits?
Depending on the project scope, Mighton Construction can assist with permit coordination or handle the permit process as part of the construction management plan.
What is ICF construction?
ICF stands for Insulated Concrete Forms. It is a building method that creates highly durable, energy-efficient walls using interlocking foam forms filled with reinforced concrete. We are certified Nudura and Foxblocks ICF installers. ICF is excellent for custom homes, basements, cottages, and church buildings in Ontario because it handles freeze-thaw cycles, snow loads, and temperature extremes better than traditional framing.
Do you build pressure-treated decks?
We focus exclusively on PVC and composite decking materials. These products offer superior durability, lower maintenance, better resistance to Ontario weather, and a longer lifespan compared to pressure-treated lumber.
Can you work from plans we already have?
Yes. Mighton Construction can work from already completed architectural plans, or we can assist with design coordination and pre-construction planning for clients who are still in the early stages.
Church construction questions
How many church projects has Mighton Construction completed?
Our church construction legacy includes more than 400 church projects since 1967, beginning with Don Hawkey Construction, continuing through Hawkey Church Management, and carried forward today by the Mighton family.
What is construction management for churches?
Construction management means we act as your project manager and construction advisor. We coordinate design, manage trades, oversee the budget through an open-book process, and provide practical oversight from early planning through completion. Fees are typically based on the size and complexity of the project.
Can construction happen while our church continues to hold services?
Yes. We have extensive experience phasing church construction and renovation work so that worship services and ministry activities can continue with minimal disruption.
What denominations do you work with?
Our church work has included Pentecostal, United, Presbyterian, Catholic, Brethren in Christ, Missionary, and other congregations. We are comfortable working with a wide range of denominations, church boards, pastors, elders, trustees, and building committees.
